Learning is part of the job

The world of work is changing rapidly in all areas. This applies in particular to IT. I have therefore made it a habit to keep training.

In recent years I have attended a large number of technology, management and communication training courses. Some of these courses were officially certified.

I also continue to train whenever I have time. That’s why I prefer to travel by train rather than by car: there I can concentrate and use the time to improve and learn new things.

Building new knowledge broadens your horizons.

Focus on my trainings

The customer is king. If users don’t like your digital solution, the product will fail. That is why I learn mainly in the areas that ultimately help the end user, whether they are visible or invisible.

Design and marketing

What do advanced solutions for end users look like and how do we want to sell?

Stacks and tools

Which programs, methods and tools help to achieve goals?

Data-driven company

What data do we collect and what conclusions do we draw from it for our business?

Organization

What things do we need to achieve our goals with the given resources?

Provision and security

Is our infrastructure designed in such a way that it can meet all possible requirements?

Monitoring

How can we determine, understand and improve what our users and the application are doing?

Certifications

A lot of knowledge is good. However, it is even better if you can show others what knowledge you have. Official certifications allow others to gauge your level of knowledge without much guesswork.

Blockchain certifications

Since I now work in the crypto sector, I have started to take certifications in this area. The first exam I passed is Certified Bitcoin Professional (CBP) of the CryptoCurrency Certification Consortium. The content revolved around understanding the Bitcoin protocol and its functions. Then I took the Certified DeFi Expert exam provided by the Blockchain Council, which was about a general understanding of the Decentralized Finance market.

Google certifications

I have long been trained in a variety of Google products and services that play a role in online sales. Among the Google tools I am skilled in are Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Optimize, Google Ads, and the Google Marketing Platform. I am also Google Analytics Certified and hold a Google Mobile Sites Certification.

AWS certifications

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the largest cloud services provider with about 50% market share in the cloud services market (according to Gartner research). Since 2018 I have used services of the AWS Cloud like EC2, S3, VPCs and CloudWatch almost every day. I am an officially accredited AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate and AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.

At the moment I am preparing for the AWS Certified Machine Learning Specialty exam.

Scrum certification

Scrum is a project management framework within which people can address complex adaptive problems, while productively and creatively delivering products of the highest possible value. I am officially certified by Scrum.org as a Professional Scrum Master.

In addition to these official IT certifications, I have a training authorization in accordance with §§ 28, 30 of the German Berufsbildungsgesetz (BBiG) from the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce for the IT training programs in application development (Fachinformatiker/in Anwendungsentwicklung) and system integration (Fachinformatiker/in Systemintegration). This means that I am officially allowed to train young IT specialists under German vocational training law.

Tutorials and online trainings

As a rule, I train in at least two subject areas per month. In doing so, I expand my existing knowledge or build up new knowledge. I rely in particular on video courses and practical training units, because the content sticks better that way.

Angular, .NET Core and Entity Framework

Since 2018 I have been using Angular and/or jQuery (in the frontend) in combination with .NET Core with Entity Framework (in the backend). ASP.NET Boilerplate is the framework, used with TypeScript, Bootstrap 4 and SCSS.

PHP, WordPress and SQL

I have been using jQuery, HTML and CSS (frontend) as well as PHP and MySQL/PostgreSQL (backend) for more than 10 years. I have been using the WordPress content management system since 2016.

Containerization with Docker

I have been using Docker and containers since 2019. Administering containers is easy for me because I have been managing Linux servers since 2007.

Near real-time search with Elastic Stack

Real-time searches are next-level “databases”. I have been actively using Elasticsearch on various projects since 2017.
