Crypto go-to-market strategy for Germany
A crypto go-to-market strategy for Germany starts with two questions: who buys your product here, and what they need to see before they sign. I am Michael Wutzke from Frankfurt, and I support crypto, digital asset and stablecoin companies that enter the German market, as a freelancer or as a permanent employee, also for interim work. You pick what I take on: the market entry plan, business development and/or marketing. Let's talk about your needs in a free 30-minute video call.
What I bring to your market entry
-
Market entry experience
I plan a launch from the buyer's side and ask early what the buyer's compliance team will check. At a Frankfurt fintech I took a crypto data product from the concept to institutional customers.
-
Business development with finance
For that product I talked to decision-makers at stock exchanges and banks and onboarded institutional customers. I helped write the terms and price definitions their legal teams read before signing.
-
Marketing in German
I write about digital assets in German, as Editor at Business Punk and in Der Bank Blog. I designed the product marketing of the data product and did the press work for projects I managed.
-
Stablecoins and tokens
I am a member of the Digital Euro Association, a think tank on central bank digital currencies, stablecoins and crypto assets. On a DTIF committee I work on the adoption of token identifiers in Germany.
-
Network in Frankfurt
The Frankfurt community Finance Loop, with stablecoins among its topics, has more than 4,000 members. Your team can meet partners and prospects at its events.
-
Hands-on with the technology
I run blockchain nodes of my own and passed the Certified Bitcoin Professional exam. I can take a partner's technical questions without calling in a developer.
What a crypto go-to-market strategy for Germany covers
It names the buyers of your product in Germany and the order in which you reach them. A crypto exchange from abroad, a custody provider and a stablecoin issuer each have to decide whether retail users come first, through an app, or institutional users such as asset managers, and which local partner brings them. The strategy also fixes what goes out in German, from the website to the terms a buyer’s compliance team reads.
I take on three parts of this work: the market entry plan, business development and marketing. The company picks one, two or all of them.
Entering the German market, step by step
The table lists the steps of a market entry for a crypto, digital asset or stablecoin company, what each step needs and my part in it. The license stays with your lawyers.
| Step | What it needs | My part |
|---|---|---|
| License | The authorization your services need under MiCA; ESMA publishes the authorized providers and token issuers | None. Your lawyers and the supervisor handle it, and I plan the launch around their date |
| First buyers | A decision on who buys first: retail users, companies, or institutional users such as asset managers | Market entry plan: the buyer groups and the order in which you approach them |
| Message in German | Website, sales material and product pages in German, and terms that a compliance team can read | Marketing: German texts and product marketing |
| Partners | Local partners who bring customers or services, such as custodians, exchanges, payment and data providers | Business development: the partner list, the first talks, and agreements drafted with your legal team |
| Visibility | A presence at Frankfurt events and in German finance media | Marketing: panels and talks at Frankfurt events, articles, press work |
| First customers | Onboarding documents a buyer’s legal and compliance teams accept, such as terms and service and price definitions | Business development: talks with decision-makers and the onboarding |
| Feedback | What German buyers ask for and turn down, taken back to the product | Reports to your product team and changes to the plan |
Where my market knowledge comes from, newest first
- Since January 2026: Editor at Business Punk, a business magazine in the German-speaking countries. I write on digital assets, blockchains and crypto investing, regularly in its investment special Anlage Punk, published in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
- 2024: expert member of the Product Advisory Committee of the Digital Token Identifier Foundation from May, where my part is the adoption of the identifiers in Germany. Founding member of the Bitcoin Bundesverband in Berlin. In April I organized a Chainlink panel in Frankfurt as a pre-event to the Crypto Assets Conference.
- January 2023 to October 2024: Chief Information Officer at the Frankfurt-based company Blocksize Capital, with growth and marketing as part of the position. In 2023 I helped write the terms and price definitions of the data product and created the legal framework of the company’s partner program.
- 2022: Head of Decentralized Finance and Node Operations at the same company. I wrote the concept of a real-time market data product, designed its product marketing, presented it to decision-makers at stock exchanges and banks, and onboarded its institutional customers with their cooperation partners.
- Since 2015: Bitcoin miners and blockchain nodes of my own. I’m still running nodes today.
Who I am
I am Michael Wutzke. I live in Frankfurt and have worked in IT and media for more than twenty years, as an employee and as a consultant. I came to business development and marketing from the product side, so I can explain a technical product to a buyer in plain German. I have attended more than 250 blockchain events, from international conferences to local meetups, and I publish German articles in Der Bank Blog and IHK-Magazin. Details: Working with blockchains.
How a market entry engagement runs
-
Free video call
In 30 minutes you describe your product, the customers you want in Germany and your launch date. I tell you which steps from the table on this page I would take on.
-
Scope
You choose the market entry plan, business development, marketing, or a mix. We agree on the form: freelance, interim or permanent.
-
Quote and order
For freelance and interim work you get a quote, and the work starts when you accept it. For a permanent position your hiring process sets the order of the talks.
-
Market entry plan
With your team I write down the first buyers, the message in German, the partners to approach and the events that matter for them.
-
Work in the market
I open the talks with partners and first customers, run the German marketing, or both, and report what buyers say to your product team.
Questions companies ask
Which companies is this for?
Crypto, digital asset and stablecoin companies that launch in Germany: exchanges and brokers, custody and trading providers, data and infrastructure providers, token and stablecoin issuers. Some come from abroad, others are young companies founded in Germany.
Do you handle the license?
No. Whether and which authorization under MiCA your services need is a question for your lawyers and the supervisor. ESMA lists the authorized crypto-asset service providers and token issuers on its MiCA page. I plan the go-to-market around the date your lawyers give.
Business development or marketing?
You decide. Business development wins the partners and first customers and prepares the agreements with them. Marketing makes the product known in German, through texts, events and press. A company with its own sales team in Germany may need only the marketing.
Do you work in German?
Yes, in German and English, in writing and in meetings. I bring your message into German for buyers here, and I publish German articles about digital assets.
Which engagements do you take on?
I support companies as a freelancer or as a permanent employee, also in interim engagements. I work remote for the most part, with on-site days in Frankfurt Rhine-Main, and travel for partner meetings and conferences in Germany.
