Real-time market data for digital assets
From 2022 to October 2024 I worked at the Frankfurt-based company Blocksize Capital, which gives institutional investors the infrastructure to analyze, trade and manage digital assets. In summer 2022 I created a new product there with colleagues from several teams: a service that supplies institutional users with price data on digital assets.
Who needs this data
Decentralized finance and institutional market participants both need reliable market data for their use of blockchains and cryptocurrencies. For banks and exchanges the data also has to be compliant. As CIO I made it one of my goals to explain why institutional users will need compliant market data on digital assets as regulatory pressure grows.
What the product delivers
The product delivers real-time trading data and historical data on hundreds of liquid and illiquid assets, for commercial purposes. The asset count describes the product as launched in 2022. Customers receive the data over WebSocket and RPC endpoints.
My part in it
I wrote the concept, coordinated the development, infrastructure, product and sales teams, and led the rollout. I designed the product marketing and spoke with decision-makers at stock exchanges, banks and other financial market participants. I also onboarded the institutional and professional customers and the cooperation partners that came with them.
My roles at the company
- May 2023: procuration, the German commercial power of attorney. It authorized me to represent the company in judicial and extrajudicial transactions.
- January 2023 to October 2024: Chief Information Officer. I was responsible for the product vision, the IT budget and the disciplinary management of the business-critical teams.
- January to December 2022: Head of DeFi and Node Operations.
The node operations team I led at the same company ran an oracle network that supplies smart contracts with market data. That work is on the page Node operations and a cloud migration with failover. Details: the CIO role.
Interfaces and certificates
The delivery interfaces are WebSocket and RPC. I hold the Certified Bitcoin Professional certificate of the CryptoCurrency Certification Consortium and the Certified DeFi Expert certificate of the Blockchain Council. Both are listed under teaching and certifications.
What a company gets from this
A company that plans a data product for regulated customers gets someone who has taken one from the concept to onboarded institutional users. I did the coordination between the teams and the talks with exchanges and banks myself.
