Shops for Lidl and REWE, and conversion optimization

From 2011 to 2016 I worked at Valentins, an e-commerce company that was wholly owned by Burda Digital at the time. I led projects and programmed the front ends and back ends of at least five e-commerce sites in those five years, among them shops for Lidl and REWE with millions of transactions. Inside the company I was the IT link between management and marketing.

What I built

  • Shopping carts and order funnels, with connections to the payment systems PayPal, WorldPay and Amazon Pay.
  • Dedicated mobile online shops that sell goods to end customers, and the work on their UI and UX.
  • A date-based reminder service. It informs hundreds of thousands of customers by email about holidays and recurring events (customer count from the years 2011 to 2016).
  • Integrations of APIs and data sources into the shops.

Conversion optimization

My second task next to the programming was the conversion rate of the shops. The shops of Lidl, REWE and Valentins had revenues in the millions in that period, 2011 to 2016. I improved conversion rates in them and ran several IT projects on my own responsibility.

The news channel n-tv named Valentins the best online shop for ordering convenience.

Tools

For analytics and tests I have worked with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Optimize and Google Ads. I hold the Google Analytics certification and the Google Mobile Sites certification, and I took courses on A/B testing with Google Optimize and on conversion optimization. My stack for websites in those years was jQuery, HTML and CSS in the front end and PHP with MySQL or PostgreSQL in the back end.

What a company gets from this

A company with an online shop gets someone who has programmed the order funnel, the payment connection and the mobile shop himself and who reads the analytics behind them. I took this work with me into insurance, where conversion optimization was part of the portals I built: A digital insurance manager on AWS.
