I live digital solutions
My work environment is the Internet: I love to create digital solutions. However, the path to the best solution is not always the same: depending on the requirements, the target group and the state of the art, very different solutions often emerge. For me, all of these solutions have one thing in common: they are online.
Whether I design IT projects or implement web projects according to given specifications, the focus of my work is always on end users. On the way to going live, and afterward too, I use a variety of programs and services, which are shown on this page. It goes without saying that I am constantly evaluating new tools and retiring unused ones.
In recent years, my focus has been less and less on active programming and more on IT project management. Basically, I’m also a kind of “feel-good manager”, because the results will only be good if my colleagues are doing well.

Platforms and hardware
In 2022 I switched to a MacBook Pro again, and since then I have been doing less and less active development.
From 2021 I used a Windows 10 laptop. My experience with Windows goes back to Windows 3 (in 2004 I also earned a Microsoft Certified Professional certification). I use a laptop so that I can do my work anywhere, because for my current employer I’m also responsible for the uninterrupted provision of web content using AWS Cloud.
Between 2011 and 2017, I worked on a MacBook Pro/Apple OS, in particular to develop high-resolution applications. Since 2017 I’ve only been on Windows 10 because PCs are now reliably 4K compatible.
Until 2017, the iPhone and iPad were the only mobile devices I used. Since then I’ve only been on Android. But that doesn’t mean I’m completely disconnected from the iOS world:
Before that time I used a hardware workbench with many end devices to test the front-end functionality. The behavior of applications could be tested “for real” by mirroring them on all of these end devices at the same time.
Provision of infrastructure
Furthermore, between 2007 and 2016, I gained extensive experience in purchasing and setting up hardware. The installation and administration took place in various data centers in Germany and the USA. This included installing server hardware, switches, firewalls, cross-connects, cabling, etc. in racks. I then configured the hardware in the data center and put the software into operation.
Since 2007 I have been setting up Debian/Ubuntu systems in a wide variety of application scenarios (as a web server, file server, database server, proxy, etc.). Since 2018, I have been expanding this experience in providing server capacity to include Docker and AWS Cloud. This simplifies the provisioning of data compared to “on-premise” solutions, since you no longer have to maintain hardware yourself.
I am also used to dealing with IT infrastructure issues that concern data protection laws (GDPR), such as the implications for dealing with user data on websites.
Thanks to my knowledge of digital solutions and web applications, I can create and evaluate technical concepts well.
